About Mia and WillWill and Mia introduce Cart Smarts

Mia attends Pioneer High School and Will attends Woodland High School. Both Mia and Will are in the 12th grade, are honor students, belong to the Woodland Interact Club, are first position on their varsity golf teams and play competitive golf year round.

In 2004 Mia's grandfather, Bill Dougherty, died from injuries sustained in a golf cart accident. This tragedy deeply affected both the Scarlett and Dougherty families. As a result, in 2005 they established the Bill Dougherty Memorial Golf Tournament.

The accident also caused Mia and Will to become highly aware of how dangerous golf carts can be. As frequent tournament particpants, they saw a need to inform junior golfers about these dangers. They began by creating a brochure to educate players about golf cart safety and the responsibilities that come when operating or riding in a golf cart. Through their efforts, Will and Mia hope to inspire an awareness of golf cart safety among peers at junior golf tournaments in order to help create a safer environment at golf courses and possibly save lives.
